Sarah Bratbie's creation continued

Poor Sarah... here she is with her head attached to her body but no legs yet...  The legs are the most difficult and time-consuming part of a rat and I wanted to do as little damage to the pink, painted nails as possible.  Still, progress was pretty quick...

Put the camera down and finish me already!!

And then... she was free!

So here's Sarah Bratbie, a vision (?) in pink European curly sparse mohair with a darker backing, an upholstery fabric tail and inner mouth, wood teeth, hand-painted ultrasuede ears, black safety-lock eyes, 2 colours of silk embroidery thread (pink and brown) for her nose, horse-hair whiskers (see later photos), white leatherette soles with upholstery fabric paws, pink embroidery thread "fingers" and "toes" with Fimo claws (painted pink and varnished), and wired from head to toes to tail tip!  She's stuffed with cotton batting, glass beads and polyester fiberfill.

Unfortunately, lengthening the rat body makes her look a little strange as a "normal" rat, and, well, she's pink:

Is that snail looking at my butt?

And how's this for style:  since she was born on May 23rd, 2005, she shares Queen Victoria's birthday!

So on came the dress!  Of course, to wear a Barbie dress well, I had to create breasts... and so here she is, a perfect fit!  Also, all of Carol's dresses have to be shortened because the rats aren't nearly as tall as Barbie.  Sarah stands about 8" tall.

Rats love shiny, sparkly things and Sarah is no exception!  She proudly has adorned herself with a beautiful set of matching pieces, featuring real pearls and pink Swarovski Crystals.  Note the bracelet, ring and earrings!  She also has on a pink ribbon choker with a crystal in a gold setting.  And of course this is Carol Heatherly's pink, off-the-shoulder, feather-trimmed gown with beaded waistline.
